Finca Villacreces Creta 2022

A limited Ribera del Duero release from the high, limestone-rich Valdelascuevas vineyard, created for serious wine lists, cellars and gifting.

Finca Villacreces Creta 2022 Ribera del Duero bottle

Finca Villacreces Creta 2022 is a new, site-specific Ribera del Duero built around Valdelascuevas, a high plateau vineyard in Quintanilla de Arriba. Released in May 2026, the first vintage comprises 8,102 bottles: small enough to reward an early conversation, yet practical enough to consider for a focused wine list, private cellar or carefully chosen gift.

Creta is interesting because it gives buyers a precise story rather than another broad regional label. It is made entirely from Tinta Fina, Ribera del Duero’s local name for Tempranillo, grown in an organically farmed vineyard with strikingly pale, calcareous soils. The winery vinified the site separately after identifying a distinctive expression in the 2022 harvest.

Why Creta is different

Finca Villacreces is already known for wines drawn from its estate near the Duero River. Creta narrows the lens to a single place outside the main property: Valdelascuevas, on a plateau opposite the winery in the municipality of Quintanilla de Arriba.

The name comes from the Latin word for chalk or lime, a reference to the vineyard’s almost-white, calcium-rich ground. The vines were planted in 1999 and the site is devoted to Tinta Fina. According to the producer, the parcel’s altitude, exposure and poor calcareous soil helped justify treating it as a separate project rather than folding the fruit into a wider blend.

That origin is the commercial strength of Creta. Guests increasingly respond to wines that can be explained through a particular vineyard, farming approach and vintage decision. Creta offers those details without requiring a long technical lecture: one parcel, one grape and one limited inaugural release.

The vineyard behind the wine

Valdelascuevas lies in one of the higher parts of Ribera del Duero’s so-called Golden Mile. Finca Villacreces describes a landscape where the pale soil makes the vineyard visually distinctive. The site is organically farmed, consistent with the broader environmental direction of the estate.

The 2022 season was marked by difficult weather and reduced yields across the region. Finca Villacreces says the surviving fruit produced wines with generosity and ripe tannins while retaining freshness. That is the producer’s assessment of the vintage, rather than a Deligoods tasting note.

For a restaurant or private buyer, the useful point is traceability. The launch materials identify the municipality, parcel, planting year, grape and first vintage. Those details make it easier to build a credible list description, brief a service team and answer a guest who wants to know what makes the wine distinct.

How Creta 2022 was made

The grapes were harvested by hand, destemmed without crushing and fermented in a combination of concrete and stainless steel. The wine then spent twelve months ageing in barrel and concrete. Giving concrete a central role was a deliberate choice, intended to preserve the character the team had identified in the vineyard.

Finca Villacreces describes a deep cherry-coloured wine with blue tones. Its own tasting language highlights black fruit, roasted and coffee-like nuances, a mineral impression, freshness, structure and persistence. Buyers should treat these as the winery’s reference points and assess current bottle condition and serving needs for their own programme.

Service should give the wine room to show its structure. A sommelier may wish to test opening time and temperature before a formal event rather than relying on a fixed rule. For a multi-bottle dinner, opening one bottle in advance provides a sensible operational check.

Where it fits

Creta makes most sense on a concise, sommelier-led list where a new Ribera del Duero can be introduced personally. It could sit beside established regional references as a limited single-vineyard alternative, especially in luxury hotels, destination restaurants and private dining rooms.

At the table, its producer-described black-fruit profile and structure suggest classic partners such as grilled lamb or beef, while its freshness could also support roast mushrooms, charcoal-cooked vegetables and firm aged cheeses. These are editorial pairing ideas, not prescribed matches; kitchens should taste the wine alongside the final dish.

For villas and yachts, the wine offers a recognisable denomination with a less familiar story. The practical priorities are dependable provenance, stable transport, suitable storage and enough notice for an allocation. For private aviation, it is more compelling as a destination gift or cellar request than as an automatic onboard pour.

For gifting, the inaugural vintage gives established Spanish-wine buyers a clear occasion. Confirm presentation, delivery condition and timing before making a promise.

Buying for Spain or international delivery

Finca Villacreces is an established Ribera del Duero producer, and Creta has entered the Spanish market through the winery’s existing channels. That makes it a selective sourcing opportunity rather than an unknown-label launch.

International buyers should still check whether the exact vintage is available for their territory, whether an appointed importer already serves the destination and how taxes, excise and insured delivery will be handled. A limited first release can move differently from a winery’s core range, so the route for one country should not be assumed to apply everywhere.

For hospitality, continuity matters as much as securing the first order. Ask whether Creta is intended as a recurring single-vineyard wine, how later vintages will be allocated and whether the estate can support staff education with current technical material.

Questions serious buyers should ask

Begin with the exact vintage and provenance. Confirm where the wine has been stored, how it will travel and whether the available bottles come through an authorised, traceable route. Ask for the current technical sheet rather than relying on an old listing.

Commercially, establish the remaining allocation, case configuration, minimum order, lead time and final delivered cost. International buyers should agree responsibility for duties, excise, documentation and insurance before dispatch.

For a restaurant launch or private event, confirm how many bottles can be supplied together and whether replenishment is realistic. For gifting, request photographs or specifications of the presentation before designing collateral around it.
