AMZ Tropical Negroni Amazônico takes a familiar cocktail and gives it a distinctly Brazilian point of view. Created in Belém, Pará, the ready-to-serve drink combines a Negroni-style bittersweet profile with jambu, an Amazonian plant known for producing a gentle tingling sensation on the palate.
In October 2026 it won the Beverage Award at SIAL Innovation in Paris. SIAL describes the result as a first for the competition: no alcoholic drink had previously won a category during its thirty-year history. For importers, bars and hospitality buyers, that recognition turns an unusual regional idea into a product with a clear international introduction.
Why this Negroni stands out
The classic Negroni is one of the most recognisable structures in cocktail service. AMZ Tropical retains that useful familiarity while adding an ingredient that changes the drinking experience. Its formulation brings together craft gin, red vermouth, amaro, orange essential oil and jambu.
Jambu is used in Amazonian cooking and is associated with a characteristic tingling and lightly numbing sensation in the mouth. Here, it is not presented as a health ingredient; it is a sensory element. That distinction matters for responsible selling and for staff training. Guests should understand that the effect is intentional before ordering.
The product’s strength is therefore not novelty alone. A bartender can explain it through a known cocktail, while the jambu gives the serve a memorable regional identity. For venues that need a concise story at the table or bar, “an Amazonian interpretation of the Negroni” is immediately useful.
From Belém to an international stage
AMZ Tropical was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in Belém, in the Brazilian state of Pará. The company says its portfolio grew from a desire to bring Amazonian flavours and culinary culture into contemporary spirits and cocktails.
The wider range includes jambu gin, Brazil-nut gin and Amazonian interpretations of the Fitzgerald, limoncello and Negroni. AMZ operates its own retail and tasting presence in Belém, serves the Brazilian market through São Paulo and has established a branch in the United States to support international expansion.
That background gives Negroni Amazônico a credible producer story. It is not an isolated competition prototype: it sits within a broader drinks business with an existing range, production capability and an explicit search for importers, distributors and hospitality partners worldwide.
What the SIAL award means
SIAL Paris named Negroni Amazônico its 2026 Beverage Award winner after evaluating thousands of submitted innovations across the wider competition. The organiser highlighted AMZ Tropical’s range of Amazon-inspired spirits, while its editorial coverage focused on the combination of a bottled classic cocktail and a distinctive regional ingredient.
An award is not a substitute for commercial due diligence. It does, however, provide a timely reason for buyers to evaluate the product and gives venues an independently documented launch story. For an emerging imported brand, that can help staff, guests and trade buyers understand why it deserves attention.
The SIAL result also arrives at the right moment for European development. AMZ Tropical used the 2026 exhibition to invite discussions with international commercial partners. Spain should be treated as a territory to investigate carefully rather than assumed to be available.
Where it could fit
For cocktail bars and luxury hotels, the bottled format could make a distinctive guest serve easier to reproduce while still allowing considered presentation. An ice cube and expressed orange peel are starting points, but venues should test dilution, temperature and garnish against the final product before writing a service specification.
For events, villas and yachts, consistency may be especially valuable. A host can offer a recognised cocktail with a stronger sense of discovery without asking a temporary team to build every component from scratch. Stable storage, responsible service and secure transport remain essential.
Private aviation caterers could consider it for destination delivery, curated amenity selections or carefully controlled onboard service, subject to operator rules and destination requirements. The colourful bottles also create gifting potential for clients interested in contemporary Brazilian food and drink.
A specialist retailer or importer would need a broader plan than the award-winning Negroni alone. The producer’s jambu gin and other bottled cocktails may offer the range depth required for tastings, trade education and repeat ordering.
The Spanish commercial question
The opportunity is not simply whether the product can be shipped to Spain. Alcohol imported from Brazil needs an appropriate importer, compliant Spanish and EU presentation, excise handling, customs documentation and a defensible landed cost.
Public information reviewed for this article shows AMZ Tropical actively seeking international distributors. A Portuguese retail listing has existed for its jambu gin, but that does not establish a current Iberian distributor for Negroni Amazônico or any rights in Spain.
A sensible first step would be to establish the current European route, obtain the technical and compliance dossier, understand shelf life and production lead times, and assess samples with bartenders and beverage directors. Only then can a buyer judge whether the product supports repeat business rather than a one-off curiosity.
Questions serious buyers should ask
Start with territorial status. Ask whether Spain is open, whether any EU importer already holds stock and which party would be responsible for regulatory compliance, excise and customs.
Request the current technical sheet, ingredients and allergen declaration, shelf-life information, batch identification and storage guidance. Confirm that the label and packaging intended for Spain meet applicable language, recycling and alcohol requirements.
Commercially, establish export pricing, case configuration, minimum order, lead time, production capacity and payment terms. Hospitality buyers should also ask whether sample stock, training materials and approved service guidance are available.
Test repeat demand through bartender education, a short menu feature and private tastings before any broader stock commitment.
